untitled-design-7While I am a sponge for new information I do have my moments… delusional moments when I think, ‘I am done learning’. These are usually very short lived, maybe an hour, half a day?  Inevitably, patients and the practitioners I have the honour of mentoring snap me out of that complacency real fast.

In the mentoring sessions I run, I am surrounded by like-minded beings: passionate practitioners (naturopaths, GPs, psychologists, physios), who challenge themselves every day to learn more & grow more in order to help more…of the people who walk through their door.

And guess what?  That means that I have to keep learning and growing too, so we can grow together. Based on this incredible growth in knowledge and confidence I have witnessed in my group mentees this year and over the past 4 years, I’m excited to be opening up applications for 2017 group mentoring right now!

“I have been educating health professionals for over 10 years and while I cherish every opportunity and platform to pass on anything I have learnt and build our collective skill set, I have never witnessed the kind of accelerated learning that occurs with practitioners who regularly participate in our group mentoring.”

I think there are a few reasons for the potency of group mentoring.  Probably most importantly, it’s because all the learning is applied not theoretical.  These are real cases.  Your cases and we talk about them in real terms, warts and all and our discussion encompasses everything from the questions you may like to go back and ask or revisit to an in-depth review of the pathology and a plan to where to start with treatment.  Secondly, there is the huge advantage of having the group collectively look over your patient’s case rather than just one individual. All  group mentees bring their own knowledge, their wisdom, their experiences with a wider range of products and services and together we facilitate learning collaboratively.  I feel very privileged to be have been so deeply involved in so many practitioners learning and to have learnt much myself along the way.

Better still, we’re improving the group mentoring experience in 2017 with a new platform that will facilitate better between session communication and follow up on cases, resource sharing and network building.

I have learnt much from my mentees and of course I have my own mentors and when I engage with them I know my own knowledge takes its biggest leaps forward.
