With increasing reliance on blood tests for better diagnosis, it is critical to ensure we do all we can to get results that aren’t confounded by other factors and therefore lead us to the wrong conclusions. We have limited control over what happens once the blood is drawn and it’s on its way to the lab but there are a large number of things we can do around patient education, contextualisation of the tests and follow up with abnormal results to try and eliminate methodological errors.
